What should've happened to Smack Down in 2010?

Man!? What the hell did happen to Friday night Smack Down in 2010?

We all love both Raw and Smack Down right? But the Friday nights seems underrated, or should I say, underwhelming? Don't get me wrong guys, I love Smack Down even before I started watching wrestling in 2007. The thing is, 2010 Smack Down became lackluster after Wrestlemania 26 in my opinion. Edge and Chris Jericho drafted to Raw to help Cena against the Nexus, more superstars left WWE and many more consequences happened. 2009 Smack Down is so stacked and many names can be pointed out to be the world champion. They have interesting and decent runs but the downfall occurred after the 2010 draft.

Jack Swagger as a world champion is mid, leaving only 5 main event caliber in Undertaker, Kane, CM Punk, Big Show and Rey Mysterio. These superstars carry the show throughout May 2010 up until Edge came back in October that year. Many young stars helped the brand emerge but they still need reinforcements or more creative stories to propel their performers to stardom. Raw is star-studded yet what happened to my favorite blue brand? There are so many what ifs in that moment. Many returns and superstar losses happened. Want to know my insights?

What if Umaga didn't die in late 2009?

We all know his stellar matches and rivalries with John Cena, Bobby Lashley and the list goes on. He is a pretty furious and scary creature that deserves a world title run. I believe a potential run for him is against The Undertaker. Picture this guys, A World Champion Undertaker will be defending his title inside a Hell In A Cell and he will face this monster? That will be a hell of a match right? That's why Umaga is a great loss for WWE and even in the entire wrestling industry because of his aura.

What if Batista quits Raw but appeared on Smack Down?

Batista shouted "I QUIT!!!" in Monday Night Raw on a wheelchair after Extreme Rules right? Yeah! He's done with Raw but what if Smack Down has a different plan for him? Imagine a "heel" Batista facing Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker and Big Show, that was another banger right? Or he might regret being Vince's dog and rebuild himself as "The Animal" over again and defend the World Heavyweight Championship in the hands of Kane, CM Punk and even Umaga.

Although Batista is already a main event caliber, he still needs more championship runs than being a bait later to Daniel Bryan after winning the Royal Rumble twice. This 2010 era of Smack Down is a big opportunity for Batista to gain more and use this as redemption after he suffer loss to John Cena back to back in Wrestlemania 26 and Extreme Rules. Well, we don't know but he is a great key addition to Smack Down because of their need of a top guy.

What if Jeff Hardy stayed until 2010?

Who's not a Jeff Hardy fan as a kid? Too few to mention. Jeff Hardy is a solid main eventer yet he can uplift the Intercontinental Championship in the mid card. If Jeff Hardy never left in August 2009, he'll probably be a World Heavyweight Champion and faced Edge rather in Wrestlemania 26. As a babyface, he can be a good rival to a "heel" Batista, or he can continue his feud with the Straight Edge Savior CM Punk. Another good match is against Umaga. If they both stayed in the roster in 2010, Jeff Hardy vs Umaga for the World Heavyweight Championship, that was an amazing main event and rivalry as well. Jeff Hardy and Umaga trading wins of that "Big Gold", how good is that right?

Jeff may left too soon because no one knows what will happen next after he's gone. He had a great match with TNA Legends, Sting and Kurt Angle but what if Jeff gave us one more year before he left for TNA? He had Sting in 2011 right? Why not just the 2010 when Smack Down needs him as a go-to guy to carry the brand. He should've won a Royal Rumble in 2010 and face The Undertaker in a Title and Streak on the line. Or maybe he won the World Heavyweight Title in Elimination Chamber rather than Jericho to face Edge in that year's Wrestlemania. Who could've thought what's next? Sadly it didn't happen

What if Vince given Kurt Angle a chance to be the Smack Down guy and not the ECW in lower card?

Kurt Angle's peak is at TNA, yes but what if he's not been released in mid 2006? One of the Smack Down 6 and a really solid technical wrestler/ main event star. I love his rivalry with Brock Lesnar but let's not forget, in a recent podcast Kurt discussed his chemistry with Rey Mysterio. The calling of spots is unscripted and all goes by their professionalism. Rey Mysterio vs Kurt Angle for a World title or even just a contender's match on a regular Smack Down episode is a banger! A World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle can also have an epic match with The Undertaker, Jeff Hardy and most of all, another beast in "The Animal" Batista. Kurt Angle has a strength that can match powerhouse stars, a speed of an athlete that outwit cruiserweights and technical skills that can make the toughest competitors tap out! In need of a face of a brand, Kurt Angle is a great loss for WWE right after he declined the ECW contract that Vince offered. He could've won that year's Money In The Bank and he's the one cashing in on Rey Mysterio rather than Kane.

What if Booker T or King Booker extended his contract up until 2010?

Booker T is another key loss for Smack Down and even in WWE itself. An athletic big man with striking skills and high-risk moves, what can you ask for? I love the feud of Booker T and Batista in 2006 for the World Heavyweight Championship even though it became personal, they've performed well instead. It should've repeated history if Booker signed another contract for WWE. Booker T left WWE in late 2007 and signed with TNA where he had a pretty decent career there. If Booker never left, he may had championship matches with Kurt Angle, Big Show, Rey Mysterio, CM Punk and lifted many upcoming stars by giving them high-end matches. In my opinion, his greatest fit to be a rival in this season is Kane. If you've watched their rivalry in early 2007 after the Royal Rumble, it's a good one! Too bad no title involved in that heated rivalry. Imagine Kane vs Booker T for the World Heavyweight Championship whether it's Summerslam or a Street Fight, either of it will make you stand up in your seats.

What if Bobby Lashley didn't pursue MMA and continue his WWE run?

Bobby Lashley is a young prospect of WWE and had a good run in Smack Down in 2006 onwards. In the late 2007 or 2008 he became inactive to pursue other things such as MMA and later on he joined TNA in 2009. Bobby became World champion in TNA in no time because of the power, force and his in-ring ability shown in the WWE, who would've thought that if Bobby just wait for a bit longer, he could've won the "Big Gold" in the Friday nights in this perfect time. He could give us a stellar performance if they've rival Umaga, Batista and Booker T. How greater could "The All Mighty" would be if he had to perform with those superstars right? But at least he have won a world title outside the WWE and returned in 2018 to win the WWE Championship twice.

My final thoughts on the 2010 Smack Down is, they're a good show but it could've been better with those superstars stated above. Even without those competitors, they should've worked on a better storyline such as pushing Kofi Kingston, MVP, Matt Hardy, Christian and most of all given Shelton Benjamin a World Heavyweight Championship even just for a month. Christian also proves himself so much yet Vince couldn't see his potential. Matt Hardy also should've been either a World Champion or an Intercontinental Champion for he's not been overshadowed by his younger brother. After that, it will always be our childhood and they're a big part in our entertainment. Smack Down 2010 produced future World Champions such as Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre and formerly "Dashing" now the "American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes.
